BRIEF HISTORY OF ARCHBISHOP JOSPEH UKPO HIGH SCHOOL, OKUNDI

Archbishop Joseph Ukpo High School, Okundi-Boki is a Mission Day School, fully accredited by all necessary Federal and State agencies. We run a complete Curriculum, and are well known for academic excellence and moral discipline.

The School was founded on the 26th day of September, 2016 under the administration of Rev. Fr. Victor Akongwale, then the Parish Priest of St. Ignatius of Loyola , as a Parish entity. The desire to establish the school was borne out of the demands of parents whose wards had attended Cardinal Newman Nursery and Primary School to continue in this citadel of learning due to her high moral and academic standards (discipline against moral vices such as cultism, corruption, sexual immorality, drug addiction, indecent dressing and above all the fear of God and love of neighbor).

The School took off with the enrolment of about 70 students with only JSS 1 and JSS 2 classes. From 2016 to 2024, the school has recorded a tremendous improvement academically, Spiritually and Morally. The Staff strength has equally improved and the general academic performance has improved greatly. On the 1st of August, 2018, Rev. Fr. Stephen Ofere emerged as the new sole administrator of the school.

However, following the need for a closer monitoring of the school, His Lordship, Bishop Donatus Edet Akpan, Bishop of Ogoja Diocese graciously elevated the school to a diocesan entity and assigned Rev. Fr. Jude Ishiekwen to take canonical possession of the entity as Principal from 1st of August, 2020.

On the 6th of August, 2024. Rev. Fr. Gregory Orimokor Joseph was assigned to replace Fr. Jude as the Principal/Manager of the schools.

Archbishop Joseph Ukpo High School is an open and inclusive community of learners, serving the need of young people and their families. We want our students to develop curiosity, imagination and confidence in themselves.
